Int'l Camp 07
was great fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoyed it very much. And so did the rest of us!

Note: this post is going to be all about this camp!

SUBCAMP 3 ROCKS!
AGNES ROCKS MAN~~~
GO ABP!

btw, ABP stands for agnes baden powell, our subcamp name, also a very outstanding woman in the guiding world :] and our patrol name was VICTORIAN :) it has something to do with the victorian times.

it was our FIRST time that we stepped into camp christine [except xinyun, who went there before during brownies camp]. it's at some ulu-ulu place at lim chu kang, and it's just a strait away from malaysia. and don't judge a place by it's location. The facilities there are quite good and the food is mamamia! :]

We signed up for many activites e.g. kayaking, cable-skiing, wakeboarding, canopy challenge, inline skating, ice-climbing, bowling, fencing etc etc. but we got backwoodsman cooking, recycling art, horse-riding, archery and pioneering, night-cycling. At first i was quite disappointed lah, but then i didn't regret going for those activites. you'll know why later (: the activities turned out to be quite FUN!

BACKWOODSMAN COOKING
it's about cooking food using purely natural resources, except for maybe a knife [swiss army knife]. I thought it was quite cool! our instructor was this person called Andrew. He's super funny and can make you laugh all day. And he's professional at turfing. Wham! and there's a deep mark. and in less than 1 min he's done. amazing right? But then he raised the changkul high above his head and whammed it into the grassy soil, so i guess that's pretty dangerous. we took like, 20 min to turf when we realised we were turfing onto a tree root -.- so we had to change location!

so you can like, barbeque the food or cook it over amber. and to that you need to have skewers to poke the food through. We learnt this fun fact that skewers can be made from twigs! You know everytime during outdoor cooking, we're advised not to pick green mossy twigs right? But the greenmossytwigs actually have a good purpose you know! greenmossytwigs means that those are wet twigs, and you can actually peel the top layer of the bark off the twig, revealing a bare and smooth part of the twig that's light in colour. It's really cool! Then you sharpen one end of the twig so that it's easier to poke through the food. And the skewer's done! But then we have to heat the skewer over the fire before using it to disinfect in. You'll dare to poke a dirty twig into fresh food and eat the food? Uh, count me out.

And then oh, we turfed the pit, then at the four corners we poke 4 y-twigs there. and we lay 2 straight twigs across the 2 sets of 2 y-twigs, and it's a "stand" for the skewers when cooking so your hand won't be very tired.

the chicken was quite chao-ta. but it was a really great experience anyway :] i ate from the rubbish pot cos i was so hungry!

we're thinking of teaching these to the NY guides next year. It'll be quite cool :D

RECYCLING ART
it was quite a slack activity, cos you just stay in the lodge and.. stone. But, we learnt toe-weaving. it's quite fun too! The end product is really nice, something like braids and friendship bands.
Things i did in 4 hours during that activity:
1. 2 toe-weaving bands
2. 1 christmas card
3. 1/2 a friendship band
4. Bathe
5. Eat snacks
6. Chat with friends

HORSE-RIDING
Went to Singapore Polo Club near Thomson area to ride a horse! It was fun! The instructor told us all about horses. and the horses there had quite amusing names like "Chopsticks". I even saw a horse named "Lao Pa".
If the horse's ear is sticking in front, that means it's friendly at the moment and is willing to let you pat it. If the horse's ear is goin to the back, it means it's angry. Don't provoke it. And don't approach a horse from the back. It'll sense "something" [that something is you] and kick and kick.
Xinyun got a horse shoe for a souvenir :) It was quite nice.

The horses had nice fur! or skin! or... fill-in-blank-space. And it was a nice experience riding the horse. It just trotted at a real slow speed.. We took pictures and hugged the horses. Some horses are cute! Whenever the instructor said something, it would nod its head. Haha! Cute right?

ARCHERY & PIONEERING
Did archery first. I've done it before last year in school, so this sport wasn't very unfamiliar with me :)
Xiaoen was really funny. Her first arrow went up up and away and got stuck in the netting. Haha! So amusing. YOU ROCK! But later on her arrows were quite decent.
There was this balloon game and everyone got a chance to shoot a balloon down. Yayy, you know what? All four of us did shoot a balloon down! Wheepeeeee, NY guides rock!

Next was pioneering. We split up and did 2 catapults. Omg, the design was so nice! I've never seen any structure so nice before! This structure needs 8 long spars and 1 short spar. So it's basically this triangular base with triangular tops. A lot of diagonal lashes are needed. Huijun and xiaoen's side used a fisherman knot [sounds nice, i want to learn!] and an "anyhow" knot, according to the guides there.

We used the giant catapult that we made to throw water bombs at the different groups. It's so fun! We attempted throwing 2 at a go, and it worked! Somehow one of the water bombs got a hole in it and so it practically drizzled on the other group! It's really really fun, we should all try it :) Feel like teaching the NY guides too... Sure that they'll enjoy it very much!

NIGHT-CYCLING
Oh, I enjoyed this very very very very very much tooooo! We cycled in the night, as typed in the heading. This activity was from 10pm to 8am. We cycled from 10pm to 2am, rested, and continued at 4am to 6am. Went to places like esplanade, clarke quay, padang, near orchard road, fort canning park etc. So cool! Cycling with our friends in the dark dark night is really enjoyable. We cycled on roads, expressways, slopes etc. Met wild cars and taxi drivers honking madly at the 50 odd of us on the roads. This may be the one and only chance I get to ride on the roads at night, becuase doing so needs traffic police permission.

We got quite stoned at the last part. My eyes were half-closed that time and I lagged quite far behind. When we reached East coast, however, I became all hyper, cos we could speed! So I pedaled as fast as i could to find xinyun and xiaoen, who were at the front of the pack. Cycling at ECP at night is fun cos there aren't many people. You feel the adrenaline rushing through you... SO FUN! After that we stopped at mcdonalds to buy some snacks, then slept at the beach. We had to wait till 8am for the bus to come and fetch us back to camp christine. Xiaoen, xinyun and huijun were quite conked out already. Actually, me too.

SO FUN!
