Guess what Brightoned up my day

Moments in Brighton:

• Playing frisbee (just throwing it around actually) at the Royal Pavilion’s gardens in lovely weather
• Brighton felt totally different from central London with the chill atmosphere; in fact I didn’t feel like we were in the UK at all, it seemed more American for some reason
• Geography 101 from Amanda – “Sarah name a difference about the pebbles here (along the shore) and the pebbles where we were sitting at just now (further up on the pebble beach away from the sea)” Answer (which I got only on the third try, after the attempts of “They are wet?”, “Their surface texture’s different?”): they are bigger. Reason: bigger rocks are heavier and tend to stay nearer to the shore while the tide washes up the lighter rocks.
• More Geography from Amanda – “This is called a groyne, which…” (Amanda goes on to explain the physical geog significance of it, which did make sense haha)
• Telling Amanda, “I wonder if anyone would try to bury themselves in these pebbles like how people do on the beach in the sand…” and then 20 minutes later seeing two guys actually doing that to their friend, whom we found out/deduced were Singaporeans after faintly hearing them talking and discreetly walking past them to confirm their nationality, to our amusement (that there were other people who thought the same way we did, and that they were fellow Singaporeans too which perhaps explained the similar train of thought)
• Gorgeous views of the sun, the sea, the sunset.
• Moving around with 10 people, but who made pleasant company
• Meeting a Malaysian uncle from the stall we bought dinner from – it is always comforting to converse in Mandarin, and the experience reminded me of one of the many ways of how people connect; here, it was speaking a familiar language in a foreign land. He’s been working here for five years, and immediately recognized Amanda and I as Singaporeans from our accents.
