Just have to post this, and like the TV commentator said, National Day is a day to reflect on how far we’ve come as a nation, how thankful we should be and to appreciate what we have at present.
Wanted to go back to NY quite badly yesterday but didn’t get the chance to. Guides was the GOH this year which makes it even more significant for the CCA. But heard from Xiaoen that they put up a good performance and am thus proud of the juniors. (:
It didn’t hit me that NDP in NY would be special because Guides would be GOH, nor did it really sink into me on Sunday that the next day would be a very important day for the juniors. It was only after receiving the SMSes that I realised wow, how time flies, and how three whole years have passed, and how, the then Sec 1s are now grown up and are FCs. It’s very surreal. There would definitely have been so many hours of sweat and effort put into the training and the drills, and I’m glad, so glad that they did it. I hope their first parade marked a good and promising beginning to their journey as seniors. Am sure everyone involved in the parade felt proud of themselves and are more confident of themselves too.
This is so nostalgic. Remembering how, back then, the cool parade formation came about, with the SJ and NP squads criss-crossing each other and the NYGG squad executing the aeroplane formation. Mannn, those memories. How each practice was tiring, yet very fulfilling knowing that we were working hard for that few minutes and working towards the goal of performing our best for the CCA & school. And to put up a good parade in celebration of the nation’s birthday (& Founder’s Day). It’s heartening to know that the juniors are going through all of this right now and experiencing what will stay as a treasured memory from their Nanyang days. There’ll be more to come for them (:
National Day Parade this year was really good, it’s different, and each year it never fails to leave me brimming with pride. It must have been very touching for MM Lee because he’s seen Singapore grow up. And everytime the TV shows the Singapore skyline and reminds us of how… quite successful a city we have bloomed into, it’s very touching. Plus my Mum would get slightly emotional too every time they show kampung scenes and how Singapore used to be a small fishing village with people leading simple lives and now whoa we’ve come so far. And it really is touching la.
Just wish they were more National Day songs played because it’s one aspect of every NDP that Singaporeans can identify with – popular past years’ NDP songs, or community songs. Love them loads.
Should get going with work and get back on track now that the celebrations are over. And Happy 46th, Singapore!
